Farewell to the summer
27 October 2019On one of the last proper sunny days of the year in Western Ireland, the Shans decamped to our local beach in Ballybunion to see out the summer/early autumn in style. We went for a lovely cliff walk to kick things off -- it's a walk I've done many times over the decades, but this was my first time doing it with my two children in tow, so it was a nice personal moment for me. We ran into some cows along the way -- I posted a photo of Gaia with them a while back, and here's another this time with Dante in the frame as well. Later, we hit the amusement arcades, where myself and Dante went on one of the shoot-em-up rides (the seat moves around as you're watching the screen). The arcades were a huge treat for me when I was a kid, especially the bumper cars (dodgems) that featured in one of the establishments -- those are long gone, and understandably so, since they were pretty rubbish, even by a kid's early 1980s viewpoint, but still, I look for them every time as the memories flood back. I wonder if Dante will be looking for this ride in years to come, when I'm long gone and he's strolling the streets with sprogs of his own...
